Lexus created an online frenzy after it released the first of a series of viral ads showing off what seems to be a working hoverboard.
The hoverboard was designed and created by an independent contractor hired by the luxury brand.
Apparently it even works, albeit only in a controlled environment. According to Lexus, the hoverboard generates magnetic levitation by combining the effects of liquid nitrogen-cooled superconductors and permanent magnets. In the video, it seems to be hovering over concrete, but sources say there are magnets located below the concrete.
Earlier this year, we saw another independent company (Hendo Hoverboards) claiming to have a similar device which also had to be used in a controlled environment.
Also, just for fun, here is a great hoverboard gag that was released before any of these real ones were. Check it out!
